Pastoral / Live-in student support

Residential Life Team /  Residential and Hospitality services

With in the Residential Life Team my roles - Senior Resident, Chief Resident and Deputy Warden - have increased in responsibility over the years and have provided me with the lived experience of identifying the key challenges students face, as well as the development of tools and plans to help overcome them and nurture excellence in academic, sports, leisure and personal development areas, in tune with the institutional education strategy. Such tools have included time-management and focus strategies, wellbeing exercises, and critical thinking and literacy tools, among others.

As a Deputy Warden I supervised a team of 10 Senior Residents providing pastoral support and community building activities at one of the halls of residence of the University of Bristol. I was a live-in assistant to the Warden of the city centre region, providing first response for undergraduate students 24/7. I supported the Warden in training Senior Residents, co-designed events, provided risk assessment, co-delivered disciplinary meetings with students and co-developed working relationships with partner (building management, student union, university staff).

I received the following training:

Senior Resident training (University Services 2017, 2018, 2019)

ASIST workshop in suicide first aid (2017)

SafeTalk training (2017) – suicide prevention.

FAA Level 2 Award in Emergency First Aid at Work (2016)
